Up to one million people displaced inside Syria since November 27
The UN Refugee Agency (UNHCR) reports that between 800,000 and one million people have been displaced within Syria since opposition forces began their offensive to overthrow al-Assad.
This figure includes 150,000 individuals facing “secondary displacement,” according to the agency.
Women and girls account for nearly half of those displaced, the report stated.
“The security situation in Aleppo, Idlib, Hama, Homs, and Damascus remains fluid, with multiple overlapping population movements. These include significant internal displacement within Syria, some internally displaced persons (IDPs) returning home, migrations out of Syria, and relatively small numbers of refugee returns,” the agency added.
It also highlighted that over 13 million Syrians have been forced to flee their homes during the country’s 14-year conflict, with 90 percent of the population now in need of humanitarian assistance.
